BALLYCASTLE – RATHLIN ISLAND

Ako ďalšiu túru som vybral výlet na už zmieňovaný ostrov RATHLIN. Začíname opäť v Ballycastle, mestečku, ktoré žiari čistotou a kde v každej záhradke rastú palmy, čo snáď každého návštevníka veľmi prekvapí.

Ostrov Rathlin priťahuje geológov, botanikov a ornitológov. Na jar a letom sa stáva domovom tuleňov a asi 175 druhov vtákov. Tento ostrov a prímorské letovisko v r.1898 spojil bezdrôtový telegraf. Marconi tu chcel lodnej spoločnosti ukázať ako toto zariadenie funguje.

Ale vydajme sa už na výlet! Čaká vás asi šesť míľová plavba po mori miestnym trajektom. Kto má rád vlnobitie, bude vo svojom živle. Kto nie, musí dúfať že Atlantik bude pokojný a že nedopadnete ako pasažieri na Titaniku.

Trajekt vyráža cez víkendy pravidelne v 10.30 hod. a plavba trvá asi 40 minút. Čím viac sa budete k ostrovu blížiť, bude sa vám zdať stále krajší. A pokiaľ ho k tomu začne pozlacovať ranné slnko a k lodi sa pridajú spevavé Puffins (Atlantické vtáctvo), bude sa vám zdať, že prichádzate na čarovný ostrov.

Keď dorazíte do prístaviska na Rathline, máte možnosť vybrať sa niekoľkými smermi. Naša skupinka si vybrala smer RUE POINT, ktorý je na východe ostrova. Chceli sme čím prv byť v tulenej zátoke, ktorá je asi 10 minút po pravej strane od prístavu. Na tulene sme mali šťastie, lebo sa vyhrievali na slnku neďaleko od nás. Je to naozaj radosť pozorovať tieto tvory vo voľnej prírode.

Ďalej sme pokračovali stredom ostrova po ceste k ROONAVOOLIN WALK, kde sa v okolí jazierok dajú pozorovať kŕdle rôznych vtákov. Po celom ostrove sú všade pasúce sa ovečky (tak, ako po celom Írsku), ktoré dokážu niekedy šplhať po útesoch ako kamzíky. Samozrejme, že občas narazíte aj na kravičky a koníky, ale inak je Írsko krajinou oviec.

Túra na južný cíp ostrova k majáku trvá asi 1,45hod. a aj toto miesto je pre milovníkov flóry a fauny veľmi zaujímavé. Opäť sme tu narazili na niekoľko tuleňov, ktorí sú veľmi zvedaví a hraví a najradšej by sa s nami zahrali na podmorskú skrývačku. Škoda, že voda nebola príliš teplá!

Keď sa s tuleňmi dostatočne zabavíte, bude čas na návrat, lebo spiatočný trajekt o 15 hod. na nikoho nečaká. Aj keď prežiť noc v tejto divu krásnej prírode s dúhou alebo hviezdami nad hlavou by mohlo byť tiež zaujímavé.
Myslím, že každý, kto tento ostrov navštívi, bude nadšený.

Aj ostrov Rathlin by sa dal nazvať ostrovom smaragdovým, tak ako sa často nazýva celé Írsko.
